Spend Dat/ Hip Hop Convo

Im referring to the convo from today’s pod regarding the impact on music in our community . This is probably one of the most frustrating topics that come up from time to time on the pod for me . They refuse to acknowledge how SOME of the music in our culture is really detrimental to the community . If we are 13% of the population in the U.S and if only 5% is impacted negatively by it ,then that’s HUGE . I couldn’t care less how Johnny Cash affects the dominant population in this country . They already have a head start and system that allows them to prosper with the negative influence .

Every day I see 15,16,17 year olds with extended clips and Draco’s , killing more than before and showing a blatant disregard of life. And after it’s done , they will go shoot a music video about . Young girls walking around with blue and pink hair ,barely clothed, and more sexually promiscuous than ever… and they will shoot you too . I’m not saying that music is the SOLE reason , but it’s a significant part of the “culture” convo as a whole. You can’t acknowledge how music moves the soul in a positive way and then don’t seriously acknowledge the negative.

It’s not lost on me that the two non music industry folk on the pod had some push back , Marc and Mona . The other three don’t understand that they are some of the exceptions who had the talent, the smarts and connections to be successful. Some people can’t differentiate between “Art” and real life and put each into separate boxes in their lives . They love hip hop too much to acknowledge the worse part of it . And I say this as a corporate , white collar black man who just got finished listening to Chief Keef,Future and Von in the car and working out .
