Is 1.2cr a year enough to live comfortably in Mumbai?
When you start earning more, the network of people you meet also changes. And with that, your lifestyle expectations seem to rise as well.
For me, it translates into:
- 1 Europe holiday every summer and 1 Asian holiday every winter
- A high-end car with a hefty EMI
- A flat in a high-end society, which means another big EMI
- Multiple house helps because both of us work long hours to maintain the lifestyle inspired by people we don’t even know
- A high-end school for the kids, because anything below IB feels like it will be judged
- Multiple activities (five, to be precise) for my 5-year-old, because you start feeling like you’re not just raising a child but trying to raise a “super hero” within your social circle
- Spending more on gifts for others than on things we buy for ourselves
- Making sure your parents get the best facilities, so instead of just looking for a good doctor, you find yourself looking for the best/high-end hospital
Honestly, I’ve stopped thinking about FIRE. My monthly salary is constantly under 🔥
