150,000 word manuscript

Finished my second draft of my book and I STILL am having the hardest time getting my word count down without feeling like I’m killing off half of my book. Any suggestions for editing?!

Extreme flare

Is there anything that can be done for a really extreme flare? I’m out of the country in Tokyo. My jaw has been locked but manageable at 29mm for 16 months but something sent it into overdrive here and now I can barely open and in extreme pain.

Feeling hopeless

Determined to be out of pain without surgery

Has anyone tried steroid injections into the joint? I’m about to explore the world of orthotics and PT - having what I believe is a disc displacement without reduction. Jaw has been locked at 29mm for 22 months.

The pain is chronic, and always there.

But I’m GOING to fix it.

Any recommendations will help! Curious about injections just for pain management (Botox does not help, I’ve gotten ALOT of units periodically the past year) while I’m doing other things.

Also, sorry for anyone going through this too. It absolutely sucks but I feel like there’s always ways to fix these things, it’s just finding the right formula

Going on 3 years of pain.

I’m mentally drained.

Back in 2022 I had a root canal that was the catalyst to all of this. Jaw was over extended - I believe a disc was displaced. I’d get in flares at times but this last one became chronic.

I don’t understand how we can send people to space but there’s not a way to help jaw pain? It’s excruciating. My jaw has been locked at 29mm for over a year now. My face twitches from the muscle imbalance, it also created an extreme open bite, which I’ve had to fix with braces. Which, I will probably have to do another round of, because now I think maybe I need to invest in someone that does splints. Thousands of dollars later and it’s just like living in a nightmare. I often think of how nice it would be just to go to get a coffee without being in pain. To eat a burger again. To kiss my husband and smile and laugh, again, without pain,

I’m sorry for any of you going through this. It’s a lot of snakes salesmen and I have yet to find someone that can actually help me.

Diagnosis with no scans rant

Just wanted to rant about this in the community. I find it interesting that every time I’ve seen a tmj specialist, until I found one that actually listened to me, they all want to diagnosis you with what’s going on with 0 interest in having you do a CBCT or MRI.

I think back to my years spent with my husband while he was a professional baseball player and the first course of action with ANY injury he had was to get scans done and then present options to treat the diagnosis.

Why are jaws not treated the same way?

I understand sometimes MRIs show NOTHING going on, but still, why are scans not the very first course of action?

Does anyone else get random lip twitches on their tmj side?

The side I have tension I get literal lip twitches on my bottom lip almost like it’s pulsing. Anyone else?

I’m about to hire an Etsy witch to take this pain away

Jk… sort of. Y’all, wtf 🤣 I literally think I’d cut my own pinky off if I knew I could end the facial pain. I’m literally convinced I’d rather have ANY kind of pain but facial

How long did it take the Botox to kk kick in? What sort of relief did you get?

Wondering what the time line is for some relief from muscular tmj. I got 30units in each masseter and 20 into each temporalis. (Been in a chronic flare for now two years)

The chronic pain is driving me mentally insane.

Just wanted to post on here and say I’m so sorry for all of you having to go through this. I always try to stay positive - this isn’t a death sentence, but truly, sometimes I wish it was. I’ve done everything you can do and I’m still in daily severe chronic pain. I miss the me before all of this. I miss being able to smile and laugh. I miss calling my friends and family. It’s so isolating. If you’re going through this, I truly understand. As someone that’s very social with no history of depression - that has really taken its toll on me.

TMJ flare lead to bite change - open!

I was getting in flares that lasted about a month and half and then would disappear (keeping mouth extended at the dentist was my trigger) but a year and a half ago I had a vomiting issue that lead to my bite slowly changing into this open bite.

I had a CBCT scan done and there was no degenerative changes at all. In fact, my scans looked the exact same as they did the previous year. What could have caused this?

I should note that I didn’t chew food for 8 months during the muscular flare and I also already had an over bite.

I’m 8 months into Invisalign and my bite is almost entirely closed, but still have tension and pain. Probably a 5 out of the 10 daily that I was having

5 years ago I had a root canal done that directly caused severe tmj pain on the opposite side of my face from keeping my mouth overly extended.

Since then, every 3 months or so, whenever my mouth was overly extended, I’d end up in a flare with horrible facial pain on the left side of my face for about a month and a half. However it almost always would go away until something would trigger it.

A year and a half ago, I got sick, throwing up all day long - and then the chronic flare came. I can’t seem the escape the pain, ever. I had a CBCT scan done because my crossbite turned into an anterior open bite and I wanted to make sure I didn’t have condyoler resorption, and thankfully, I didn’t. Structurally nothing had changed in my scans that were both a year apart from eachother,

I’m currently 7 months into Invisalign into fixing my bite back, and while my teeth are coming back together, I have constant spasms. My temporalis, jaw, masseter, it feels like I have tight pulling bands on the left side of my face.

Before this happened to me, I was incredibly social, really the life of the party. I was always traveling and talking to my friends and showing up for people. Now I feel like life has taken that from me. In every other aspect of my life, I have it all. I have a husband that loves me dearly, great family, great friendships, and seemingly nothing else wrong with my health.

However, the mental component of waking up in pain every single day has really really affected me. I truly don’t know how much longer I can do this for.

Does anyone have any idea what could have caused the open bite? Do muscle imbalances really do things like this? I didn’t chew for half a year when my bite shifted. Used to mouth breathe as well. Thankfully, the Invisalign and rubber bands to sleep in, have almost trained me not to do that anymore.
