Tips for using uncoated 500D Cordura - badly fraying

I bought about 17 yards of cordura to make gear with and it doesnt have a urethane coating (I knew this when I bought it). What I didn't realize is how badly this stuff could fray when handling. I feel like the raw pieces fall apart in my hands.

Any tips for how to work with this? Im gonna try edge binding first to see if that revolves it.

Ive got a laser cutter so Im gonna try to use that tonight and hope it melts the edge enough to where I dont have to worry about it but that is only going to work for small pieces.

EDIT** I'm not asking if this is safe, we already tossed it. More asking if this something like bone fibers or something else common we just aren't used to seeing.

Just thawed a T-bone that came from cows my parents raised this past summer. It was professionally butchered by a well known local butcher that is FDA certified. It went from my parents freezer to ours and was thawed in warm water right before this photo.

Is this mold or some kind of bone fiber? Looks questionable to me but Im no pro.
