Bon, j'exagère peut-être un peu. Mais pas tant que ça.

Jules vient de sortir Oublier hier, son deuxième album, et c'est le genre de disque qui te rappelle que Montréal a une scène soul qui mérite vraiment plus d'attention internationale.

C'est de la soul alternative francophone — des textures feutrées, des mélodies qui restent, des paroles qui parlent de rupture sans jamais tomber dans le cliché. Ce qui frappe, c'est l'aspect cinématographique du projet : les images dans les chansons sont tellement fortes que t'as l'impression d'écouter une bande originale de film que tu aurais envie de voir.

Il a tout fait lui-même avec son co-réalisateur Olivier Girard — instrumentation, mix, direction artistique. Ça s'entend. Y'a une cohérence rare pour un artiste à ce stade de sa carrière.

Son premier album lui avait valu une nomination à l'ADISQ dans la catégorie « Album de l’année - R&B/Soul ». Celui-ci, c'est un pas de plus vers quelque chose de vraiment distinct.

Jules just released Oublier hier ("Forget Yesterday") and it's the kind of project that makes you realize how slept-on the francophone soul scene really is. Think alternative soul with cinematic production — the kind of album where the imagery in the lyrics hits as hard as the instrumentation.

His first album got him nominated at the ADISQ (basically the Quebec Grammys) in the R&B/Soul category. This one feels like a significant step forward. He co-produced everything with Olivier Girard — instrumentation, mix, artistic direction — and the cohesion shows.

The album is built around a breakup narrative, but it doesn't wallow. It moves through confusion, denial, and eventually clarity. His quote about the project says it best: "I needed to put words on things I barely understood myself. Writing these songs was both a way to heal and to see more clearly."

Start with Karma (feat. Naomi), Sors de là, and Déjà trop loin. Even if you don't speak French, the sonic palette alone is worth your time.
