What lesson stayed with you the most?

Hey published writers!

What’s the most important lesson you learned through the writing process that still stays with you today? It can be anything, from the biggest revelation to the smallest habit.

Thinking about it myself, one of the most important things I learned was how to keep pushing myself forward. More than 15 years ago, I was struggling with writing as a whole. Nothing was clicking, and I felt genuinely depressed because of it. So I made a very simple decision: I would write just one sentence today, and another one tomorrow. It was so easy to sit down for one sentence that I kept doing it every day. Before long, I got hooked on my own writing process. A month later, I was gradually building up to 5-hour writing sessions.

So, what about you?

How to write a blurb?

I finally finished my story. Now I need to write a blurb to start sharing it.

The problem: I’ve spent so long developing every aspect of the plot, characters, and world that I’ve completely lost perspective.

Do you guys have successfully done it?
And if so, do you have practical advice on writing a blurb when you're too close to your own story?

Thank you for your time!

Looking for better 5e compatible rules.

Hi guys, I’ve been a GM for four years now.

Because I’m the only GM I know, a lot of people have asked me to introduce them to D&D (friends, friends of friends, family, colleagues). At first, it felt great to be the one leading the way and bringing new players in. But after GMing a few tables for a few years, I started to struggle with the rules as a whole.

The other day I opened the Player’s Handbook again to prepare a new level 1 campaign for four players, and I found everything overly complex and exhausting to relearn. I end up spending a lot of time cutting out mechanics. A good example is rations. My players are in a small town with merchants around; they can hunt and/or gather, and I feel like focusing on eating is something that should just be hidden in a narrative ellipsis.

Do you guys have the same experience? And if so, do you know of any systems compatible with 5e that are more user-friendly and better streamlined?
