State of this lawn question

Just moved into a house in Chelan county, Washington state. Trying to figure out 2 things:

  1. What type of grass this is.

  2. What is going on with it that is making it so vertically thick? I believe the previous owners mowed and left the clippings on the lawn. So I’m guessing it’s a thick layer of thatch. I had the lawn dethatched a few weeks ago. But it still seems like there is a lot left. Or maybe this is something else going on with the lawn or an attribute of the grass species?

Thanks!
