Underwhelmed with my 4h, seeking top of bag suggestions

I had to simply remove my 3w from my bag because I couldn't make great contact with it. Everybody sung their praises about their hybrids so I got a 4h for the 220ish yd shots from the fairway.

Thing is, I can't make great contact with this club either. The balance feels weird cuz it's heavier than my irons, and the shaft is shorter than my 8 iron. My mishits are nearly always thin and off the heel so ball shoots like a low pull.

Totally open to the fact that I probably need to just be athletic and swing with more coordination. But I'm curious if there's a club that you feel swings more like an iron (like more descending blow rather than "sweeping")

Which clubs do you have at the top of your bag between driver and 5 iron?

Iron striking better on range than course

I suspect that this is a common issue for many golfers, so I'm here to see if anything has worked for amateurs and get some advice.

On the range I consistently strike my irons well, which for me is hitting 7+/10 of my shots within my average carry distance, as well as my cone of dispersion.

When I play on the course, I struggle to make solid, consistent contact and as a result my shots are all over the place. My basic theory is that there's probably a mental component (different focus/stress), and a physical component related to the course itself - uneven lies with the ball above/below feet as well as hitting from variable grass conditions.

For those that strike the ball well on the range but worse on the course, what have been your mental and/or physical fixes that have improved your ball striking on the course?
