Will the union really come after me if I switched to a nonunion contractor as an apprentice?

My local doesn’t pay much at all. I can’t afford to live and I’m stacking up more and more debt. I can’t even pay for my books this year so I think it’s time to move on. Everyone I speak to says they have never heard of the union going after anyone who went non union. In fact one person told me they can’t even legally do anything.

Any ideas on how I can become a better candidate for a lineman apprenticeship?

There is no ground man/helper positions open at any line companies right now. I’m willing to get some experience from any company but eventually I’d love to get on with Entergy however they’re slow moving and I can’t sit around and wait hoping they hire me soon.

I’m in a terrible ibew inside wireman apprenticeship (getting paid $14/hr, not learning anymore… only doing lights by myself since my jw is old and lazy, no work so I can’t move jobs, and I’m not paying $1000 for another year or this bs)

So yeah, I made the decision to do SOMETHING different to better myself before I ruin myself and linework looks so much more interesting. Anyway, any suggestions on what I could do to make myself a better candidate??? I got an opportunity at AT&T lined up, or I could go work in house at a plant/pipeline (if they want an apprentice). There’s a ton of those in Louisiana.

Entergy hiring process

I had an interview a couple months ago for an 1st year apprentice/helper position and I think I did really well but I have not heard anything back. Their career website says my application is still in progress so I’m hoping it’s just a matter of when will they hire me. I feel like if they didn’t want me they would’ve said something by now.

Anyone know if it normally takes this long? Is there any HR people I could contact?

I’m not about to pay another $1000 next month for this bum a** apprenticeship I’m in now just to get hired on later this year so I guess I need to find a solid temp job until i hear back from them. Any suggestions??!
