Thiel invests in Shale Oil extraction and cosies up to Javier Millei

"Palantir chair and co-founder Peter Thiel has bought a 1% stake in Argentina's Vista... one of the largest oil companies operating in the country's Vaca Muerta ‌shale formation....

Vista operates in Vaca Muerta, home to the world's second-largest shale gas and fourth-largest oil reserves, located in Neuquen province in Argentina's Patagonia region....

Thiel had recently bought a mansion in an upscale neighborhood of Buenos Aires, local media reported...."

Of course he is doing all this.... and cosying up to Javier Millei who wants to expand data centres to the Patagonian nature reserves, profiting from climate crisis... at this point I think he actively relishes knowing everything he does causes widespread harm, amplifies inequality and will lead to a level of social and environmental plantery collapse where he and his cronies intend to survive the oncoming semi-apocalypse and create their perfect dystopian elitist technocracy on the barren wasteland of civilisations.

I hope they've worked out who is going to be cleaning their homes, growing their food and wiping their tooshes come their eventual dotage ...?

Switching from Vodafone SIM only 8GB out of contract to Lebara 5GB SIM only?

Hi, I've been out of contract with Vodafone for a year now and my current 8GB discounted package as an 28+ year (!) loyal customer who haggles a loyalty discount each time and uses minimal data (was on 1GB plan for 2 years until 2025 for £11!) is now £15.21 from April.

Vodafone's 1GB package is now £16/month w/o any loyalty haggles but they'll likely not offer me any lower data plan than I'm on, even if I renew, and may just try to offer even more unrequired data as that's what happened in 2023. No company likes to charge you less than they already do.

For reference, I almost never go outside now, don't stream music or films on phone.

I have a home fibreoptic 1Gbps plan, and watch everything on laptop, and upload mp3s from Bandcamp/CDs to phone mp3 player via additional microSD card for storage in phone.

No gaming, no live uploading etc.

My average monthly data use is well under 500MB, often closer to 200MB/month.

So I was looking on MSE for examples of cheap SIM deals and I see Lebara offers a 5GB plan for a pittance:

Months 1-7 £2.04/mth Thereafter £4.90/mth

Quick search on here suggests they don't make it easy for you to port your number though?

Is that still the case, or is it relatively easy to do?

I've also had my phone number since I joined Vodafone in 1998!

I am just checking for lived experience of switching from Vodafone to a carrier on the same network with a super-cheap offer and no bells and whistles except unlimited calls/text in the UK and 5G with minimal data use.

How hard was it?

How easy was it?

What pitfalls do I need to look out for?

Any advice or good experiences to share?

Thanks in advance for any good insights or warnings!

Pitten

A little Pitten.

Tiny, cute trotters, that soft little snout, a curly little fluffy tail and soft calico kitten fur.

Who would not want one in their garden?

We don't speculate as to how a pig and cat managed to do their magic... *wink*
