Should my sweetcorn be flowering already?
I’m in Cheshire, and I got my sweetcorn off to a fantastic start this year. They’re 4-6ft high. I have two beds, sweetcorn (Tyson) in the foreground, and baby corn (minipop. Probably) in the background to the left.
Whilst all the baby corn are coming along in a pretty uniform manner, Almost every single plant in the Tyson block has come into flower. The cobs are also tasselling, which I guess is a good sign.
I was anticipating this to be far later in the season, but maybe their start to the season has brought everything forward for them?
For reference, I sowed into 9cm pots, germinated indoors and kept them in a south facing summerhouse during the day, moving them indoors at night. They were around 1ft tall when planted out in the last days of April.
