Career Path Advice?

Sup ya'll.

Lurked here for a couple months, looking at getting into the maritime industry. Not sure where to start tho? Or which path to take?

I have looked into various apprenticeship programs. To follow posting rules lol, I'll just let you guess the most notable. But other options I've seen are MITAGS and Job Corps to get to AB.

However, I've also read that its not too hard to get started as OS? I'm open to inland or out at sea but I really have no idea where to look for jobs because I live in a landlocked state.. no exposure to any companies or unions that exist. I think Great Lakes would also be pretty sick?

I'm also applying to a couple maritime academies (SUNY and Cal Poly) and probably have decent odds at acceptance? But I'm not too sure I want to go to 4 years of school?

So if anyone here has some experience or advice I would greatly apprieciate it! Just wanna know what each option looks like and whats actually doable.

Edit: just for context since I mentioned lack of exposure. I'm from Tennessee but I've had a big interest in maritime due to my dad being Coast Guard and me being a cadet in Navy JROTC and Sea Cadets. And a Coast Guard Auxiliarist lol
