Did blood work today, and GP calls to see me and prescribes me statin?
Update: First of all, thank you to all the commenters helping out <3.
So far from the comments its seems that many doctors were very simply trained: high LDL -> prescribe statins. And nowadays there's a CAC test which can be taken. At least this makes understand where my GP's point of view and what actions to take next (CAC).
Hi everyone, 42/m, 6'2" 193lbs. Been doing keto-ish for past 5 months. Try to always keep it under 50 net carbs no matter what, unless I fell off the wagon. Most days was under 20g, and some days 30~45g.
So I got blood work today, and my GP prescribed me Atorvastatin 10mg to lower cholesterol and told me in the mean time to eat a low fat diet. Before keto, I never ever in my life had issues, all my HDL/LDL/Cholesterol markers within the "conventional range" and were considered "very good". I told the GP that I'm doing animal based keto (or trying to be keto-ish) and that I heard that you need to look at the ratio of - and this is where I blanked out, something about the ratio of Triglycerides to HDL ratio as indicator of metabolic health: https://youtu.be/h9b0F1jJFRk?t=998. I didn't bother saying anything else to the GP because I was at loss for words and figured it would have been futile anyhow, I guess they're just following the book.
So here are the results:
TRIGLYCERIDES: 90 mg/dL
CHOLESTEROL: 233 mg/dL
CHOLESTEROL-HDL: 64 mg/dL
CHOLESTEROL-LDL calc: 151.6 mg/dL
NON-HDL_CHOLESTEROL: 170 mg/d
Did my GP completely miss the mark here prescribing statin or are my results not looking good and I need to re-adjust the foods that I'm eating?
Thanks.
(Just rambling here, feel free to skip...) As far as diet goes, eat very simple: Lots lf eggs - some days up to 10, fish like salmon/musht, lots of chicken wings/thighs with skin, whole tahini (used as sauce for stuff), chicken breast, green soya beans, tofu (seldomly), butter, coconut/olive oil, and my weakness are deep nuts: walnuts, peanuts and and shelled sunflower seeds - its where my carbs stack up, sometimes beef. That's pretty it all and only the last few weeks been experimenting with yogruts, ones that have 6~7 carbs per yogurt (150grams).
