List of things to keep an eye out while driving a two wheeler in namma Bengaluru
In my 37 years of living in our beautiful city and 16 years of driving both bikes and cars, I have made a list of things to watch out when you are driving everyday. Feel free to add your reasons in the comments if i have missed any
First and foremost, your own vehicle - make sure it brakes well, runs well and is adequately maintained and always wear a seat belt (car) or a helmet (bike/scooter) no matter how short your ride is.
Slippery/muddy roads
Autorickshaws standing at the side of a road - they can start and cross into your path without any warning.
Autorickshaws already driving on the road - same as above, can turn and stop in the middle of the road without warning.
Un-registered cargo/delivery electric two wheelers
Electric BMTC buses
Scooters with missing rear mud guards+mirrors+rider sporting a chicken hairstyle
Bikes with missing rear view mirrors
Cars (electric/petrol) with FOLDED driver and passenger mirrors while driving
Vegetable pickup trucks (Mahindra bolero's) returning after unloading vegetables
Hyundai Creta, Mahindra Thar and Scorpio - Can't tell which owners are sane or insane, better to avoid all
Any person driving any vehicle while watching reels on their phone
Cars with infotainment systems playing youtube videos while car is being driven
Women driving scooters with both legs hanging on the sides
Men/Women who sit too close to the steering wheel while driving a car - even without an L board assume they are new drivers who get spooked easily and jam their brakes. Keep a safe distance.
Keep an eye out for all these above and you will mostly return home safe and sound everyday.
