My very boring wisdom teeth removal.
I am making this thread because I was lurking here the days before my extraction being a little apprehensive. And I saw that a lot of people were also very apprehensive and sometimes scared and reafing how the procedure went for others helped me to be pretty chill on the day of.
Anyway, M29, two wisdom teeth on the left side (lower and upper). Fully erupted since 2016-2018 (cant exactly pinpoint when they got out). Painless for 10 years. Then in june I started to get pain on the lower tooth. Like not a lot but enough to go see a dentist for the fkrst time in 4 years (yes, its bad, I dont like dentist though).
The dentist tell me verbatim "You have two MASSIVE cavities on the two wisdom teeth. They are about to attack the nerves and its gonna be painful as hell." She was surprised that it hadn't started to hurt until now and she told me I needed to get them out ASAP. I told her I could only do it in early august and she was pretty adamant that I get them removed before because they are gonna be painfull.
I could only do it in august though. Fortunately my teeth stopped hurting after a few days and didnt flair up.
Comes august, day of the extraction. I opted for local anesthetic and didnt use any laughing gaz because I was scared that I would lose my way home after the procedure if I was too high. I hesitated for a while to do it under general but I wanted it to be quick and I remembered getting teeth oit when I was a teenager and it wasnt THAT BAD. However, when I told people that qi was getting my wisdom teeth removed, they warned me and told me all of their horror stories
They told me that
- They felt rhe entire extraction
' The anesthetix didnt work
- They swelled up like crazy
- Couldnt eat for 2 weeks
- were in pain for days and even speaking was painful
- they had to spens days with ice on their cheeks.
- they couldnt work for a week.
Welp, I went on a monday to get the extraction expecting exactly this. But I said "fuck it, lets get it over with". And it went very easily.
The only pain I felt was.when they gave me the local anesthetic shots. They hurt, not dramatixally but still. Then I felt absolutely nothing expect pressure when the dentist pulled my teeth out.
And he pulled them out under 20 minutes.
I was stitched by in less than 10.
The entire ordeal lasted 30 minutes and I didnt feel a single thing. Its not super comfortable to have half of your face asleep but its manageable.
They sent me home with ibuprofen, one week of antibiotics and low dose of oxycodone. I took tje ibuprofene and oxy just as the anesthesia was wearing off just in case and I spent the rest of the day at home, sleeping, uncomfortable but not in pain. Bleeding stopped after 1hour and pain was at max 3/10 when drugs were wearing off
That day and the 3 days after I ate ice cream.
The day after I used rhe ice and ibuprofen because I was feeling a little bit of pain when opening the mouth to eat and I stopped the oxy.
The day after I went back to work. I didnt swell or felt any pain at this point I just felt like I had somethinf stuck in my gum) This sensation lasted about a week until the stitches came off.
By day 4 I was eating normal/soft food and was careful when chewing and only did it on my right side. Still no pain, just sometimes a bit of discomfort.
Day 5 or 6 I started to get a little bit of pain, very manageable, and I was afraid that it was the infamous dry socket. I start to eat normally again except hard stuff (toasted bread for example).
Day 7 I realised that the pain was because one of the stitch got loose, got half-swallowed and was tugging on the extraction site and iritating it.
Day 8 : The stitch finally came out and the pain went away. Last day on ibuprofen.
Day 9 : I was pretty much back to normal. First day using a straw and it went fine.
We are at 2 weeks post surgery now and I dont feel any different than I did 3 weeks ago except I have no more wisdom teeth. I think it helped that my dentist was very good and very quick. Also, my teeth were filly erupted with minimal impaction.
But overall thats it. Everything went rather smoothly and no regrets getting the fuckers out. Kinda wish I did it earlier though like when I was 18-20 but they didnt bother me so I thought id keep them forever
