Sanity Check for Cameras

Greetings all,

I wanted to do a quick sanity check. Evidently we may be able to get some funds to revamp our camera systems and our superintendent seems deadset on Verkada. While I have some concerns over their sales tactics I can't deny that the demo seems pretty smooth. One thing I noticed however is that we have to pay for hardware upfront and they're claiming that their cameras are ONVIF compliant which means if we ditch them late we'd be able to use the cameras. That seems to go against things others have said in that their cameras are bricked if you leave Verkada. Are they ONVIF compliant now?

Some others I'm hoping to look into:

Building out our Video Insight server more, need to sit down with a support rep to finish rolling out some stuff for proper apples to apples comparison.

Seen some people switch to Avigilion which I was under the impression was just as expensive as Verkada.

Coram.ai, know very little about them.

Uniquiti seems to be the up and coming provider for smaller places like our school district.

Curious if ya'll have some insights.

Odd scrolling behavior on M5

Greetings all,

I've got an M5 mouse that I had in storage for a bit as I'd opted to switch to something else at home. Decided to bring it into work to use and I've noticed if I have it plugged in to charge (to a wall wart, not the PC) after 10-15 seconds of not doing anything with the mouse then button clicking/scrolling won't work till I jiggle the mouse. Anyone else notice this?

I honestly don't remember if I'd seen this happen before as it's been months now and usually when I'd plugged it in to charge it was during periods I wasn't using it.

Old Aver Chromecart Divider Solutions?

Greetings all,

This is a long shot but does anyone still have Aver Chromecarts (or similar) with the metal wire dividers in them? Like the C30i? Have any of ya'll found solutions for replacing either the cable management (those clips were a menace to knuckles) and/or the dividers themselves that doesn't include replacing the cart?

As far as the cable management goes I've had some success with adding 3d printed cable holders to the tops of the shelves so the cables hang down, though I need to work on their durability both in being broken and/or pulled down from students yanking the cords anyway. Probably not much I can do there.

For the metal wire dividers those and the screws holding them in have taken a beating. Several carts are missing dividers and most have loose and/or missing screws entirely. Adding some loctite may help with the screw looseness but with how tiny the screws are it really isn't hard to bend them, loose or not. I had worked on a design a few years ago that would have let me run cords through 3d printed dividers but I abandoned it due to it being to thick (losing slots) and it would have taken to much material. Now that I've had a few more years under my belt designing odds and ends I'm thinking about making another, simpler, attempt that would probably be either just the dividers (given I have the hanging cable holders) or running the cables underneath via channels rather than through the dividers.

Wanted to cast a line out here in the off chance someone's figured out a simpler way of going about either of my two pain points short of replacing the cart itself.

Embarc Issues?

Greetings all,

Anyone know what's going on with embarc.online /Eureka math curriculum? A teacher reported it down a week or two ago, I assumed it was probably a temporary outage, and I just found out that it's still down. It appears down both on school network and cellular so I assume it's widespread?

I think this started before the Canvas issue so I don't think it's involved.
