Is it more provocative to be barefoot or shirtless

I saw some dude in the supermarket today shirtless, and from what I could deduce he also had lunch shirtless with his friends in the nearby Chipotle. I was wondering if people think it’s more provocative and rulebreaking to be shirtless or barefoot in a store. I have my opinions but I am biased.

Are links prohibited here?

I’ve tried to post a link to my being invited onstage at a punk show to perform, barefoot, but it keeps getting killed by the moderator. Is this against the rules?

Going to a mountain cabin for four days

Next weekend I’m going with a couple of buddies to a mountain cabin for four days. Both my wife and one of my friends have warned me about hiking barefoot or even generally going barefoot because of snakes, ticks, rough terrain, etc. I am not sure they understand the barefoot lifestyle. Any insights? I have done some research and it does not appear that there are many venomous snakes or deer ticks in the area. And I have foldable flip flops now that I can bring on a hike for any rough terrain I may briefly encounter.

Has anyone calculated how many stores they’ve been to

barefoot?

Many years ago, I tried to add up this figure and got to over 200 different establishments. It’s been so many years since then, I imagine I’m now over 500. Who knows, could even be over 1000.

To be clear, if a location changes businesses (e.g. it was once a greeting card store and is now a pet supply store), and I went into both, I count it as 2. But if it’s the same store, I count it as 1 even if I’ve been there many times.

Sometimes this can be subjective, such as if a bar changes its name, does it now count as 2? What if the name is just subtly changed, e.g. The Terrace becomes The Ivy Terrace? This might depend on whether ownership changed, or it was substantially remodeled, or both. Or what if one supermarket chain purchases another, so the store is basically the same as it always was but just has a different name? So it’s not an exact science.

Each separate store in a mall counts as a separate establishment. But different departments in a department store do not. Different stores of the same business count separately (e.g. two different McDonalds locations). A public park does not count, but a public pool might if it is enclosed. A random parking lot does not count, but if it is being used as a flea market or swap meet when you’re there, it does. Multiple businesses in the same office building each count separately.

If you’re having trouble sleeping, and you don’t like to count sheep, counting places you’ve been barefoot might help you fall asleep.

80-day barefoot streak about to come to an end

Since May 18. I haven’t worn footwear except for less than a half-hour total in flip-flops for a few events where I needed footwear for ingress and egress. Unfortunately, a relative died and I will break my streak later this week at the memorial service.

During this 80-day period, I’ve walked 20,000 steps per day on average. I’ve been to movies, concerts, malls, grocery stores, doctor and dentist offices, flea markets, hotels, car dealerships, bookstores, record stores, clothing stores, restaurants, etc. I have not restricted anything I wanted to do because I didn’t have footwear. I wasn’t kicked out of or denied entry to any establishment (at one club, the bartender asked me “do you have shoes?” and I said yes, which was true, but no one said anything after that and I didn’t need to put them on).

Any comments I got, which were few, were positive or, at minimum,, just inquisitive.

It can be done.

Question about Julio Urias

Does anyone know why this guy just dropped off the face of the earth after he got suspended? And even long after his suspension would have ended. I get his behavior was terrible, and I’m glad he’s not a Dodger and I can even see why no MLB team would want him, but the behavior wasn’t even deemed criminal,at least not a felony. He deserved punishment, even severe, and got it, but not only did it take forever for MLB to decide on the punishment (and he didn’t even seem to be pushing to expedite it), but as far as I can tell he hasn’t even popped up in the Mexican League or anywhere else. Does anyone know what happened to the guy? Is he ashamed? Is he on drugs? What happened?

Conversation at Whole Foods

An older man, in his 70s, approached me yesterday. He said, “I spent 10 years barefoot.” I asked him, “why did you stop?” He thought about it, then said he wasn’t sure. He asked me why I do it. I told him because it’s more comfortable, I like to see what I can get away with, and it’s better for my back. He said, “you’ve inspired me” and took off his flip flops. As I was walking away, I said, “just look out for the security guard!”
