What do you think Bento Hinoto could have become as a guitarist if he had survived?

I recently discovered Bento Hinoto, the guitarist of the Brazilian band Mamonas Assassinas, and I was surprised by how little he seems to be known outside Brazil.

Mamonas Assassinas became hugely popular in Brazil in the mid-1990s, but their career was tragically cut short in 1996 when the entire band died in a plane crash.

Bento was only 25 years old, so he never had the opportunity to develop his playing over the following decades.

That's what makes me curious: what do you think he could have become as a guitarist if he had survived?

Do you hear enough potential in his playing to imagine him becoming a much more technically accomplished guitarist, perhaps exploring other genres or projects later in his career?I'd really like to hear your honest opinions — not just whether you like the music, but what you think of Bento's actual guitar playing and potential.

What if Dead had never died? How different would Mayhem and black metal be today?

Dead's death in 1991 changed Mayhem forever. But sometimes I wonder what would have happened if he had survived.

He was already becoming an important part of Mayhem's identity, alongside Euronymous, and the early 1990s lineup became one of the most iconic periods in black metal history.

If Dead had survived, do you think Mayhem would have developed in a completely different direction?

Would Dead and Euronymous have remained together in the band for many more years? Would their relationship and musical ideas have evolved? And how different do you think the Norwegian black metal scene would have become?

I'm not asking this to romanticize what happened to Dead. I'm genuinely interested in imagining the alternative history — the Mayhem that might have existed if that tragedy had never happened.

What do you think?

Would Dead still be considered one of the defining voices of black metal today, or do you think his legacy would have evolved into something completely different?
