A Califórnia É Uma Distopia

High Pitch Sound on a brand new F800GS

This is a brand new 2026 F800GS. It has about 120 miles at this point.

The sound from start has already shown this high pitched noise but it seems it is getting worse.

Note that it is worse on idle.

Is this normal?

UPDATE 7/1/2026 Brought it to the dealer and they said it is normal. It is coming from inside the engine. They said it gets better with time and after the 1st service it will get synthetic oil which will make the sound more round. At least that's what they told me.

Removing the GPS Preparation from F800gs

Just picked up a 2026 F 800 GS (new-gen 895cc, K80) and it came with the GPS Preparation option — the ConnectedRide Mount cradle above the TFT. I'm not running the BMW Navigator; I've got a Garmin I'd rather mount on a RAM ball, so I want to pull the cradle off and free up that space.

Another option that seems to be quite interesting is the Chigee AIO-5 Play or the Chigee AIO-6 MAX with BMW adapter (not sure it fits).

The BMW original is $817 quoted by the dealer and $500 for the AIO-5 Play and $670 for the AIO-6.

Any thoughts are much appreciated.

A few questions for anyone who's done it:

How far did you go — just unbolt the cradle and leave the harness in place, or did you trace and remove the power/data lead too? I'd rather leave the loom tucked behind the cockpit if that's the sane move, but curious what others did.

What's the screw type and torque on the cradle mount? The rider's manual walks through unlocking the mount (hold the button with ignition on, cover swivels off, slacken the screws) but doesn't give a Torx size or torque figure — that lives in ISTA. If anyone has the spec handy I'd appreciate it.

Any gotchas with the multi-controller wiring connector once the cradle's off? Trying not to yank anything I shouldn't, and want to keep the contacts clean/dry in case I add the Navigator later.

Did removing it throw any error on the dash, or does the bike not care that the cradle's gone?

This is the new-gen F 800 GS, not the old K72 — most of the manuals and threads I've found are for the pre-2018 bike, so I'm specifically after experience with the current K80/ConnectedRide setup. Photos of a clean delete or a tidy RAM mount solution would be gold.

Thanks in advance.

The F 800 GS is the GS that actually makes sense for a daily rider

After a season on the F 800 GS, I'll say it: for people like me who ride every single day, this is the GS that just makes sense. It's the all-rounder that thrives on hands-on, heavy daily use - light enough (~500 lb wet) to flick through traffic, park anywhere, and pick up without a second thought, unlike the R 1300 GS/GSA, which is a brilliant machine but tips the scales 90 - 100 lb heavier. Yet it still delivers proper road comfort for day trips and shorter multiday hauls, with that upright, commanding GS riding position and all the go-anywhere versatility the line is famous for. You get the whole GS character without babysitting a 600 lb adventure barge. Bigger isn't always better - for a daily rider, lighter just wins.
