Basically interviewed for a J-1 visa for residency (post-graduate medical training) in the US in July and was initially approved then passport returned with 221g slip.

Case been in admin processing since then and I requested a status update 30 days ago to which they said your case is under administrative processing which we can’t expedite.

I asked for another status update yesterday and they told me “Kindly note that your case is not currently undergoing any processing and is refused under 221g.”

What does that mean???? Am i refused fully or does it mean it’s on pause or what? What can I do now?

I have till October 31 and my position will be gone.

As the title says:

I interviewed on Monday - 30 second IV - J1 approved.

Told to pick up my passport on Tuesday (221g slip inside it, wait for admin processing)

Today, Thursday, i get an email saying admin processing is done, send us your passport back via courier. The courier is closed till Sunday.

My questions are:

1. Is it likely approved or not?

2. Once i send my passport back on Sunday, when will i likely receive it back? I want to travel back home..

Assuming someone has to attend their J1 visa appointment in another country due to the embassy in their country being closed, would that mean they’re stuck in that country for 2-3 weeks until they get their passport back?
