Emergency surgery in non-approved PMJAY hospital – can we still claim insurance?

My grandmother was admitted in an emergency to a newly opened hospital in Sathyamangalam, Tamil Nadu. She had leg surgery and is still in the hospital.

We have PMJAY/Ayushman Bharat insurance, but later we found out that this hospital is not yet approved under PMJAY, so cashless insurance was not possible.

The total bill may go around ₹3 lakh. Hospital staff told us to keep all bills and try claiming later through grievance or insurance agents.

Has anyone faced a similar situation? Is it possible to claim insurance for emergency treatment in a non-approved hospital? What should we do now while she is still admitted?

Emergency surgery in non-approved PMJAY hospital – can we still claim insurance?

My grandmother was admitted in an emergency in a newly opened hospital in Sathyamangalam, Tamil Nadu. She underwent leg surgery and is still admitted. We have PM-JAY / Ayushman Bharat coverage (₹5 lakh scheme), but later we found that this hospital is not yet empanelled under PM-JAY, so cashless claim was not possible.

The total bill may reach around ₹3 lakh. Hospital staff suggested keeping all bills and trying reimbursement/grievance through agents or PM-JAY officials.

Has anyone successfully claimed reimbursement in emergency treatment cases from a non-empanelled hospital under PM-JAY or CMCHIS in Tamil Nadu?

What process should we follow while the patient is still admitted? Any genuine guidance would really help.
