So this summer as well as the summer before I kind of got into baking cupcakes and decorating them. It’s fs a just a small hobby of mine but I’ve also profited off it a couple of times (nothing insanely crazy tho, a couple of distant family members/friends would request an order and pay a generous sum of money).

I also have an insta where I initially planned to open a mini, at-home sweet treat business but never got ‘round to actually doing it (partly bcs I didn’t feel I had all the resources and partly bcs I didn’t think I had the marketing skills lol).

All of this is said to ask if it counts as an extracurricular activity. I still bake and would dare to say I’m pretty good at it, I just don’t have a running business (I don’t think I’m ready 😔), but I’m not unfamiliar with the prospect of getting customers and creating something for them. Figured it could count as a ‘business’ in some vague sense. Lmk what y’all think!

I’m interested in knowing how much ECs matter for UofT’s mech Eng undergrad program. Im entering my final year of highschool and looking to pick up some last minute ECs that could help (this also means that my options are limited considering the short time frame).

I’m well aware grades play a huge role and I don’t have a major issue with that, but as someone with average ECs (ie. lead ambassador, volunteer work for school events, public library, and maybe an independent article as a side thing + a couple more average/decent things) but like zero internships, awards, and other cracked engineering-related ECs, I’m worried I may be underestimating their importance and jeopardizing myself in the long run.

If any of you know of or have been accepted by this program with mid-ish ECs lmkk!! It’d help your girl out quite a lot :))

Additionally, any words of advice or encouragement are welcome and would help a great deal!
