Transition from audit to accounts prep

To those of you who have transitioned from predominantly audit roles to predominantly accounts prep roles, what has your experience been like?

I'm starting to put accounts together at the end of audits now and if I'm honest I feel like I could do away with all the audit procedures and just do the accounts. Seems much more chill.

Any responses would be appreciated!

When do you guys study in the day?

This is probably counterintuitive as I am 11/14 exams down (BDS, CR, Case) but I am so worn out so I will take any tips.

When do you guys study in the day? I usually do Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings for an hour and half and then a couple of hours on both Saturday and Sunday. I've tried mornings in the past but I wasn't able to stick with it.

If anyone can let me know what works for them, I would appreciate it. I think I'm looking for some inspiration as I'm not too far away from finishing now. Thanks in advance :)

BDS Resit September 2026 - Advice on How to Pass Request

Hi all,

As the title suggests, I am resitting BDS in September after failing in June. This is my first fail of the qualification (last Prof exam) so I'm in uncharted territory and am unsure of how to go about it.

I found the exam overwhelming and extremely time pressured. I froze in there and I think in general I was struggling to generate sufficient points for each question (especially the data analysis ones) all the way up until the exam.

Any advice from those of you who have passed BDS would be greatly appreciated, as well as those who have resat Professional exams before. Thanks in advance :)

Audit vs. Accounts Long Term

Hi all,

I am currently a part-qualified auditor considering a long-term move into accounts prep post qualification. I have prepared accounts up to the trial balance stage for owner-managed businesses.

Can anyone who has worked in both audit and accounts prep tell me which one they prefer and why? I will use this information to make a better informed decision. Thanks in advance :)

Audit vs. Accounts Long Term

Hi all,

I am currently an auditor at a great firm, on track to fully qualify next summer. I am naturally thinking about my future.

I do see myself in practice for a while. I like the technical side of audit but I know that as one rise up the ranks, the hours can become quite unsocial. I was wondering whether a move into accounts prep would be better for me long-term? Would I still be satisfied like I imagine I would be in audit from a technical standpoint?

Can anyone who is advanced in accounts preparation tell me what they do day-to-day that interests them? I am personally looking forward to working on things such as consols in audit in the future as I was wondering whether there are such things in accounts prep that I would find interesting. Thanks in advance :)
