The sleep med my doctor gave me was the reason I couldn’t sleep for two years.

Hey, I just wanted to share my story because I know how hopeless insomnia can feel.
For two years I suffered from debilitating insomnia. I’d lie in bed for hours every night, exhausted but completely wired, and I had no idea why.
My doctor had prescribed olanzapine to help me sleep, but it turned out that was actually the thing keeping me awake.
Once I figured it out, I tapered off it and eventually got off every sleeping med I was on. My insomnia slowly got better, and by the three-year mark it was completely gone.
Now I’m sleeping through the night and even taking naps during the day, which feels like a miracle.
To anyone struggling with insomnia right now, please stay optimistic. There really is hope.
If you’re on any psych meds or sleep aids, talk to your doctor about tapering them safely, because in my experience those meds were the root cause. If it could turn around for me, it can for you too. Hang in there.
