How stickler are you for historical accuracy in a period drama?

I find myself either extremely nitpicky or relaxed depending on the film. While I prefer historical accuracy, I know it's not always possible. What are your thoughts?

To the musical theatre people in the group

What musical theatre song fits your favorite Ali character? I've been listening to theatre songs and I don't know why but "All I Ask of You" from Phantom of the Opera fits (imo) Elsie and Jack.

The New Cover!!

Whether you like movie poster covers or not, I'm getting this one for sure 😊

As a third-year Ph.D. candidate, Olive Smith doesn't believe in lasting romantic relationships - but her best friend does, and that's what got her into this situation. Convincing Anh that Olive is dating and well on her way to a happily ever after was always going to take more than hand-wavy Jedi mind tricks: Scientists require proof. So, like any self-respecting biologist, Olive panics and kisses the first man she sees.

That man is none other than Adam Carlsen, a young hotshot professor - and well-known ass. Which is why Olive is positively floored when Stanford's reigning lab tyrant agrees to keep her charade a secret and be her fake boyfriend. But when a big science conference goes haywire, putting Olive's career on the Bunsen burner, Adam surprises her again with his unyielding support and even more unyielding...six-pack abs.

Suddenly their little experiment feels dangerously close to combustion. And Olive discovers that the only thing more complicated than a hypothesis on love is putting her own heart under the microscope.

I put this in FAQs but I am still concerned

My landlord messaged me today: "May I also remind you that your studio must be vacated one week before the end date of your rental contract (24/8/2026)." Is that normal? I've never heard of this

what is the law in Belgium about security deposit refund?

I'm not sure if this is a common question but do landlords usually give your apartment security deposit after your lease ends? In the US some landlords will not give you your security deposit back for even the littlest things (like there is still dust in the corner of the room).

Look what I found at a second hand bookshop in Belgium!

I've been contemplating whether to read Deep End or PSM next. Looks like the book gods gave me my answer! $9

Belgian Refugees during WWI

I just wanted to share a book I wrote, not advertising just wanted to share my love for Belgium and Belgian history. In America we learned about the invasion of Belgium in 1914 but had no idea about the refugees that left Belgium. Since living in Belgium, I have learned so much that I wrote a historical fiction where one of the two main characters is from Leuven (my favorite Belgian city btw) who seeks refugee in Normandy, France. Is there any part of Belgian history you find interesting?

Lili's Cosmopolitan interview about Chapter 16

So you’ve seen my boobs?’ Lili wryly asks, referencing (spoiler!) a sex scene that happens when Olive and Adam [played by Tom Bateman] finally get intimate for the first time. ‘It was a discussion between me and Clare [Scanlon, the movie’s director], like, “We want it to be a bit of a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it sort of nip slip, rather than full frontal,”’ she explains. ‘It was my first time signing a true nudity rider, where you specify exactly what the camera is allowed to see. It was kind of exciting. I’ve never been afraid of nudity. It was really important for the fans of the book to get a juicy sex scene.’

The sequence is most definitely sexy, with a heavy emphasis placed on the female gaze. However, unlike the book, which dedicates two whole chapters (and many explicit descriptions) to the intimate moment, the on-screen version is decidedly shorter. ‘It could have gone a little harder, but, to be honest, I think anything more than what it is wouldn’t have fit with the rest of the film. No movie was ever going to do a 10-minute-long sex scene.’

I made a version of the movie scene book cover [NOT OFFICIAL]

I just had some fun with this concept. If I like the cover of the book -movie pairing I might get it.

Aliverse character birthdays?

I can't seem to remember if any of the characters in Ali's books have a birthday assigned to them? If they don't, when do you think their birthdays are?

I just thought this was funny, especially on Canada Day

I know that it was most likely not the intention, but Olive has Canadian colors in these three images put together like this, which is funny because Olive is Canadian! 🇨🇦

Also happy Canada Day, Canadian Hazelnuts!
