I am an incoming international PhD student from a background where it is standard to address professors and others in positions of authority by their surnames.
I have been accepted and am currently corresponding with several people, including my prospective advisor, my prospective co-advisors, administrative staff members, and the international office. They often sign their emails with just their first names.
I wonder whether I should reciprocate and address them by their first names now, or whether I should wait until we become better acquainted personally.
