I just discovered there's a SECOND surf rock group whose discography includes "Shortnin' Bread" and "Bull Session with the Big Daddy"

What if they messed up take 1 of Twist and Shout?

Since John's voice was totally gone on the lost Take 2, what would the band have done for the last track on the album if they didn't nail the first take?

Done a 3rd take with Paul singing?

Recorded another song with a different vocalist?

Recorded an instrumental (perhaps Catswalk)?

If someone other than John messed up and not enough for the take to break down: kept the vocals but tried to redo the instrumental as an overdub? (Was this even possible with the recording technology they had access to then?)

Gone home and finished the album at a later session? (EDIT: And I guess the question from here is would they try Twist and Shout again or go for something less vocally demanding?)

Released the album with 13 tracks? (A Hard Day's Night had 13 tracks but maybe that was only viable once they had enough clout)

Come up with some sort of studio chatter filler track to get to 14? (like on early Beach Boys albums)

Put How Do You Do It on the album???

Yet another Star-Club compilation, but this time it's a wide stereo demix that's actually good

I made stereo remixes of the 10 exclusive Star-Club songs (plus "Hallelujah, I Love Her So" which was also a 1960 home demo). There are a few other attempts like this on YouTube already, but they all have problems with stem separation artifacts or inferior source material. My source was Albums That Should Exist's edit of Lord Reith's early 2025 remaster. I separated the tracks into 4 stems (5 for "I Remember You") using MVSep's version of BS Roformer SW, with manual corrections and re-splits to minimize artifacts. I also adjusted the EQ to make the instruments sound less muffled.

Hope this is okay to post... the rules say no self-promotion but also it's Fan Album Sunday. To be clear, there are no download links.

What if 1 included number ones from outside the US and UK?

First of all, it would have to be on two CDs. The album already went dangerously close to the format's soft limit of 80 minutes as it was.

Anyway, I was reading though the Beatles' singles discography on Wikipedia and I was surprised by how many more tracks went to #1 in other countries that were only released as singles over there. So I put together this fan album that adds those international #1s to the compilation's tracklist. Notably, every album except Sgt. Pepper is now represented: With the Beatles and Rubber Soul each have 2 songs added, and the White Album gets 1½.

One more thing: this only covers English-speaking countries, but the only song that kicks out is "Komm, gib mir deine Hand".

DISC 1:

  1. Love Me Do
  2. Please Please Me [#1 on every UK chart except Record Retailer]
  3. I Saw Her Standing There [#1 in Australia, Canada, and New Zealand]
  4. Twist and Shout [#1 in New Zealand and US Cashbox]
  5. From Me to You
  6. She Loves You
  7. Roll Over Beethoven [#1 in Australia]
  8. All My Loving [#1 in Canada]
  9. I Want to Hold Your Hand
  10. This Boy [#1 in Canada]
  11. Can’t Buy Me Love
  12. A Hard Day’s Night
  13. I Should Have Known Better [#1 in Australia]
  14. If I Fell [#1 in Australia]
  15. I Feel Fine
  16. She’s a Woman [#1 in New Zealand]
  17. Eight Days a Week
  18. Rock and Roll Music [#1 in Australia]
  19. Ticket to Ride
  20. Help!
  21. Yesterday
  22. Day Tripper
  23. We Can Work It Out
  24. Michelle [#1 in New Zealand]
  25. Nowhere Man [#1 in Australia and Canada]

DISC 2:

  1. Paperback Writer
  2. Yellow Submarine
  3. Eleanor Rigby
  4. Got to Get You Into My Life [#1 in Canada from 1976 reissue]
  5. Penny Lane
  6. Strawberry Fields Forever [#1 in Canada]
  7. All You Need Is Love
  8. Hello, Goodbye
  9. Lady Madonna
  10. Hey Jude
  11. Revolution [#1 in New Zealand]
  12. Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da [#1 in Australia and New Zealand]
  13. Get Back
  14. The Ballad of John and Yoko
  15. Something
  16. Come Together
  17. Let It Be
  18. The Long and Winding Road
  19. Now and Then [#1 in the UK in 2023]

Overall, this feels like it would be a good middle ground between the single disc of 1 and the four discs of the Red/Blue albums. The new tracks definitely skew more towards the early years, but I don't think there are any clunkers here.
