CoLP vs BPP

Hi all,

I have a training contract and need to pick between doing SQE prep through CoLP remotely or through BPP in London. Struggling to find much first-hand stuff online so hoping someone here has actually been through it. Would appreciate your thoughts on-

  1. If you've done CoLP how was it honestly? Curious about the teaching, the materials, how the course was structured, anything you wish you'd known going in.
  2. Also did anyone work while doing it? Was it actually flexible or just flexible on paper? Trying to figure out if doing it remotely from a different time zone while working is realistic.
  3. For anyone who's done BPP instead, what were the actual pros and cons for you? How would CoLP and BPP compare? Only thing putting me off CoLP a bit is they don't publish pass rates so it's hard to know what I'm actually signing up for compared to somewhere like BPP.

Is a UK training contract still worth it if you may not stay in the UK long-term?

Hi everyone,

I'm hoping to get some perspectives from people who've worked internationally or have experience with more than one legal market.

I'm an Indian citizen who recently graduated with an LLB from a Russell Group university in the UK, and I've been offered a training contract with an international law firm in London.

It's an amazing opportunity, but I'm struggling with whether it's the right long-term decision. I can genuinely see myself building a career in either the UK or India, and while I'm leaning towards India at the moment, I know that could change over time.

I guess what I'm trying to work out is whether completing a UK training contract is the best investment in my career if I eventually return to India, or whether I'd be better off starting my career there sooner.

I'd love to hear from anyone who's been in a similar position:

  • How is UK qualification generally viewed in the Indian legal market compared with Indian legal experience?
  • If you weren't sure where you wanted to practise long term, would you still complete the training contract?
  • Looking back, what opportunities has qualifying at an international firm given you that you don't think you'd have had otherwise?
  • If you could go back and advise your younger self at this stage, what would you say?

I'd really appreciate any thoughts or experiences, I'm sure there isn't a single "right" answer, but hearing how others approached this decision would be incredibly helpful. Thanks!

How valuable is a UK training contract if you may not stay in the UK long-term?

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for some career advice, particularly from anyone who's worked internationally or qualified in more than one jurisdiction.

A bit of background:

  • I'm an Indian citizen.
  • I recently graduated with an LLB from a Russell Group university in the UK.
  • I've been offered a training contract with an international law firm in London.

I'm at the very beginning of my career and am trying to decide whether to complete the training contract. While I may ultimately build my career in India, I'm trying to understand the long-term value and portability of qualifying in England & Wales.

I'd really appreciate your thoughts on:

  • For anyone with experience of the Indian legal market, how is UK qualification generally perceived by Indian firms compared with Indian legal experience?
  • If you weren't certain where you'd eventually practise, would you still complete a UK training contract? Why or why not?
  • What opportunities has a UK qualification opened up for you, either in the UK or internationally, that you don't think you would have had otherwise?
  • Looking back, what advice would you give someone making this decision at the start of their career?

I'd really appreciate any insights or personal experiences. Thanks in advance!
