Kim Ou-joon, one of Korea's most influential public figures, takes on BTS's Grammys decision

2 days ago user u/Particular-Yoghurt81 made a post with Colin's insights about the korean perspective on the Grammy withdrawal. After that I started paying attention to his account and today he shared a really interesting segment about the topic from Kim Ou-joon on Gyeomson News Factory. It is a long but very interesting read. He talks about other shows doing the same, about the history of 'separate but equal' and why he thinks this is such a significant cultural event.

D'Angelo: so... bts just boycotted the grammys (as they should) | calls out snark subs

I know D'Angelo can be controversial in the fandom for things said before but I saw a post on twitter saying his video about this was actually interesting. So I watched it and its a long livestream about how he thinks BTS is right and all other times that the Grammys did artists wrong. He will have an edited form of it on his youtube later, but he even notices how the group had talked about wanting the award before and how that changed.

As you would expect the chat is a mess full of antis - and he has to stop and repeat many times that the topic are the Grammys and BTS statements about not submitting their music. In the end he mentions something that got to me. At 1h49min he says he hates talking about BTS because nobody knows how to be normal about BTS and that includes people that don't like them. And that even if there are things to talk about, being snarky isnt the best way to do it, that people have a lot of biases and use it as gotchas. And they are using these spaces to justify their dislikes and end up with a lot of misinformation being spread.

And to see someone not in the fandom seeing how things get was just needed for me today. So many bad faith arguments are being done about what BTS said. So many people dismissing it as just: they did it because they can't win, they are jealous, they are bitter and evil, etc. Purposefully not understanding where they come from because of their biases.

HYBE posts record quarterly revenue on BTS comeback, concert boom

BTS was the main driver of HYBE’s second quarter performance, the company said. The band returned in March with its fifth full-length album “Arirang” after nearly four years due to the members completing their mandatory military service.

“Arirang” topped U.S. sales of both vinyl records and CDs, according to global music data analytics firm Luminate, which helped revive the physical album market, HYBE said. The album also led Korea to become the world's third-largest music exporter, following the United States and Britain.

BTS also kicked off its world tour “Arirang” in April and also headlined the halftime show at the FIFA World Cup 2026 final on July 19.

Rising girlgroup RESCENE says BTS are their role models

https://x.com/wonixxv/status/2079088723485130924

They are a group from a smaller company that recently got a lot of attention in South Korea and their songs are climbing up the charts. It's nice seeing groups being inspired by their rise and naming them as their role models in all areas.

After reading this I know they must have been happy when Namjoon used their song on an insta post.

When people love BTS songs (but won't admit)

There was a post going around on X from a fan of another group saying they loved House of Cards and it should have been 'given' to their faves.

In the replies people were talking about BTS members vocals and naming several songs that they wish were for other groups.

I remember that, when Arirang came out, some fans were saying Hooligan would have been perfect if it was from someone else.

Is it that hard to praise BTS as artists? You are here hating BTS while listening to the deep cuts and wondering why people love BTS so much.

Even without taking into acount that members themselves worked on production/writing in most of these songs, would they have really worked with other voices? Other styles? When I listen to good songs I don't go thinking: oh I wish this was done by someone else. It feels so dismissive to love how something sounds and don't consider that their vocals are also part of it.

Maybe you just like BTS music and their style. Just admit it.

Arirang Tour Merch

I had seen complaints about merch quality from the arirang tour, but with the european leg starting soon the current discussion are the prices. There are several posts online with people complaining, saying it was less expensive to ship it from korea.

I have been keeping up with merch info (to prepare for my concert) and I wonder how are the merch prices/quality compared to other artists in your area?

From Teen Vogue: The Grammys 2027 Best Asian Pop Music Category Is Just Another Form of Segregation

"On Arirang, BTS’s song “Aliens” addresses the colonial eyes that appraise and other them in the West. It’s almost as though they could see the panic their success would trigger in the American music industry, even before they released the project."
