I love simplicity

The South Dakota flag doesn't need much to be good. Take away the seal and the lettering, add a border (I love those too), and you've got a unique, recognizable and nice-looking US State flag.

As for the symbolism : A blazing sun on a field of sky blue for the Sunshine State and its seemingly unending plains, and a golden border for the bountiful harvests from these same plains.
