Looking for a sharp sidesword

I fence bolognese sidesword and I’m looking for a sharp sidesword that handles and feels similar to one of the blunt sparring version I use

I was looking at one of the Regenyei armory bolognese sideswords and that’s exactly what I’m looking for visual wise, but upon reading some reviews of the quality of the swords themselves, they’re not all that great unfortunately.

Does anyone have recommendations for places to order a sharp sidesword? Thanks!

Crowfoot Nursery, highly recommended!

I went to Crowfoot Nursery today to purchase a coastal redwood, of a blue variety today. Ended up going with Simpson Silver and Steel Blue

10/10 experience, it’s run by a lovely older couple whose passion for trees is evident in the quality of the saplings as well as when they talk about the trees they’re growing.

They also have the most extensive and coolest collection of conifer cultivars I’ve ever seen! Maybe a dozen different types of coastal redwood as well as giant sequoias! There’s a lot of cool atlas cedars, spruces pines and Douglas fir cultivars as well.

The prices are fantastic and if you’re local, by calling ahead you can schedule to visit the nursery in person to pick out your tree and get a good visual example of how mature specimens will look.

Simpson’s Silver Coastal Redwood from Crowfoot Nursery

You guys need to check this place out!! Coolest selection of trees I’ve ever seen!

Purchased a Simpson Silver coastal redwood cultivar (and a few others redwood cultivars!) from a place called Crowfoot Nursery located in Sandy Oregon. https://www.crowfootnursery.com

Best experience buying plants I’ve ever had in my entire life!
A husband and wife team runs the business and are growing dozens upon dozens of exotic conifer cultivars focusing mostly on redwoods!
They’ve got 10+ coastal redwood, giant sequoia, atlas cedar, and spruce varieties of cultivars on hand for each species and a couple more too!

Not being paid to advertise or anything, they’re a really nice couple and grow some amazing trees and I’d love to help them spread these wonderful cultivars out to the world.
If you’re local to Portland I’d definitely recommend giving them a call to stop by and visit the shop in person. They do online orders as well for anyone not local.

Best wishes!

Monterey Cypress / Lemon Cypress help

I’ve been trying to do research online and have been getting really conflicting answers about the long term viability of growing a Monterey Cypress (Hesperocyparis macrocarpa) in the suburbs of Portland Oregon.

I see a lot of people saying it’s a bad idea because of the risk for the trees getting cypress canker. Whereas others say it’s fine so long as the trees have the proper amount of water in the summer heat. I saw a bunch of Lemon Cypress and Monterey Cypress at a local nursery today which inspired the question.

I planted one in my yard a year ago and am wondering if I should transplant it to my aunts property on the Oregon coast? If so should I wait to do so in the fall before the root system can further establish itself in the ground? It got some browning on the tips of new growth during a 100 degree heat wave that lasted 4 days, the tree appears very healthy at the moment otherwise.

Any input would be welcome, thanks!

Eastern Red Cedar Cultivar Identification Question

I purchased this eastern red cedar from Jonsteen and the foliage is a surprising silvery blue color! I’m wondering if it’s a cultivar and if it is, what kind?

When I look up pictures of these trees in their native environment they have a normal green color compared to this little fella. I live in a suburb of Portland OR, and it seems to really like the climate almost doubling in height this growing season.

Monterey Cypress Seeds, free to a good home!

I’ve got a couple grams of Monterey Cypress, I recently found out that the Willamette Valley where I’m located, isn’t a great place to grow these trees because of cypress canker.

Looks like these trees need to be planted along the coast and not inland even if the USDA hardiness rating says it would be ok.

Anyone on the Cali, or Oregon coast feel free to shoot me a message. I’ll send these for free if you can cover shipping!

Got them from Sheffields Seeds first week of June.

Monterrey Cypress in Danger?? Help and advice welcome

Edit: Monterey Cypress from California not Mexico, typo,

Monterey Cypress, was growing amazing until this weekend.

I live in the Willamette Valley region of Oregon and we had a nasty heat wave over the weekend. Temperatures were around 100F for a few days and the tips of a fe w needles on the Monterey Cypress turned brown from heat exposure presumably.

I was reading about cypress canker and I’m worried I may have planted the tree in the wrong climate despite it being well within the USDA hardiness rating for the region.

My aunt has land on the Oregon coast, and I was wondering if I should dig this little guy out of the ground and transplant it before it gets any bigger?

Thanks

Hey folks! I’m a chemist who studies copper based alloys and I have a historical archeology project I’m working on. I need some help finding an arsenic source I can use to recreate early arsenical bronze alloys.

I understand why this is, but I’ve only found small samples cast in resin or in ampoules so far. Probably not safe to sell something poisonous to the general public.

I work with other scary elements like chromium and antimony and have all the proper PPE and ventilation needed to do something like this and I’d really appreciate if anyone knows where I could get some! Thanks!
