There she is!! 2 week update

2 weeks Posterior LTHA!

So…. 2 week update! People were spot on about days 3 &4 being the absolute worst. They were. I was in pain, uncomfortable, HELLA bruised all the way around my entire thigh down to my knee. Pain was controlled with Oxy and I pretty much kept ice on around the clock the first 7 days.
I 💩 on day 5…. 😂 IJS, it’s on the list. I took the rx stool softener 2x per day plus at least one “dose” of Miralax per day until things got going. I took my pain meds around the clock the first 5 days.
My appetite has been not great,so I have been having protein smoothies, bone broth, etc to try and keep nutrition going plus drinking a ton of water. Appetite improved on week 2 as meds lessened.
I bought a recliner prior to surgery, but personally I have been more comfortable in my bed.
On day 11, I had to evacuate due to catastrophic flooding (Indiana, picture of my building attached). At the time of evacuation I had no power, no water, and my entire buidling was surrounded by water. I live on the fourth floor. My belongingss were fine, but I had to navigate down four flights to get out. Phew!
Spent 5 days in two different hotels and was able to come home today. Everything has been restored EXCEPT the elevator 🤦🏻‍♀️ So back up I went. Slowly. LOL
All in all, and considering the natural disaster, I feel like things are on track. I saw the PA today and he seemed to agree. Stated it’s not uncommon to need pain meds or to feel unsteady for several weeks. There are so many “i was walking pain free up the stairs when I got home” stories and he validated that is the exception and not the norm. Especially for a posterior approach .
I am EXHAUSTED! I take at least a 3 hour nap every day. Between the meds and the healing, I am wiped out. Also completely normal, but I know sometimes the level of exhaustion is surprising

I Did It!

Right Total Hip, Posterior approach…. I am a HORRIBLE surgery patient, I have violent vomiting for about 12 hours to follow…. But, NOT TODAY!

Get a spinal if you can! The pain control has been incredible and because the block controls all the pain, you don’t need Anesthesia Gas (which causes 🤮) I just got a whiff of Propofol and went to sleep. Took about an hour.

Woke up feeling sleepy, zero pain.. soent a few hours getting the feeling back in my legs…. Eat some food, take a walk, urinate, see PT and OT…. All of this went so well and I am now home resting. Pain is controlled.

I was TERRIFIED, so scared I felt like I was going to have a heart attack, but it was MUCH easier than I though and I am looking forward to pain free walking coming soon!!!

You can do hard things! You got this.
