Today’s Harvest

Today’s Harvest

I got a good haul today from my community garden plot.
Celery, zucchini, small purple cauliflower, variety of cherry tomatoes, ground cherries, sweet long peppers, lemon basil, purple basil, pink & purple string beans, carrot, small onions.
Assorted flowers: zinnias, pansies, cosmos, Thai basil in bloom, verbenas, onion flowers.

In the jars are dried rosemary & sage from my last harvest early August.

Garden Resident

Excited to share my lone swallowtail caterpillar 🐛 I’m in love with it, I hope the dill patch provides it with the shelter and nutrients its needs.

(( Sorry for the wonky camera work, I’m still learning. ))

Strawberry Patch: Year 4

**Thank you everyone for replying and providing information on this, I think I’m off on the right path to save my strawberries now 😄**

Hello everyone, I’m noticing a decline of strawberry plants in my bed this year. Its year 4, I started with 3 plants in a corner and my 4” by 8” bed was packed with them last year, like phenomenally loaded with berries. This year it’s not as full. Im wondering what went wrong? The original plants are still there but many of the newer ones aren’t.. I made sure the plants weren’t suffocating each other and gave a lot of attention to the plants and soil throughout the season.
I also have a row of Allium flowers in the back and half of them didn’t pop up this year.

The only thing I did differently was use fallen leaves last year as insulation during the winter months instead of my spent mulch straw. I thought fallen leaves were better nutrients but is it possible to have killed some of my plants this way?

Weather wise we had a few severe freezing rain storms over the winter, spring so far has been wet but no flooding or bad spots where the garden is.
