Will acquisition lead to a layoff?

I gave up a very good and stable job in October for a job 1000 miles away. The job gave me more money and more seniority, etc. On the day I started my manager informed me that that was their last day. At That point there wasn’t much I could do because I started using the relocation money to get my relocation going. I’ve had no boss since then. Then they told us two weeks ago that they are joining with a larger company who’s buying them. They’re trying to assure us that things may not change, but given I head up the customer service department and a small accounting team, I believe both teams are destined to be fired. The deal has to be approved by regulators and they’re saying that may take six months or so. I relocated my family 1000 miles and I can’t quit and find a new job because I would have to pay back the $25,000 in relocation. If I keep working until October of this year I only have to pay half of the $25,000. But I think around Q2 of next year that’s when the deal is gonna go through and I think they’ll start letting people go right away .Does anyone have any advice? I can’t take out a $25,000 loan to pay the money back and I fear they would sue me if I dont pay it back. But if I wait until six months from now, I really feel they’re gonna let my teams go because the company that bought us won’t need us. Any advice is appreciated as I’m the only breadwinner in my house and we just bought a house and I’m extremely concerned. And to add icing to the cake, I found out today that they hired who will be my new boss. I’m surprised they hired him given that we just bought by another company. I don’t even understand the strategy behind that.

Alternatives to hanging things directly to drywall

I am finally a homeowner and I recently installed drywall in the garage(it was just studs). In the rental house I was in before I had a few flags and a couple of hot wheels and my lawn equipment hanging from the drywall. I’d rather not put holes in my drywall and I’m wondering is there an alternative like a planking or something that I can put over the drywall rather than drilling a bunch of holes into it. Any thoughts are appreciated
