He was known for speaking his mind, often taking stances against the worshipping of Shirdi Sai Baba as a Hindu deity, raising concerns over the composition of the Ram Janmabhoomi Teertha Kshetra trust, and protesting against hydro projects on the Ganga, Swami Swaroopanand Saraswati was a major participant in the Ram Janmabhoomi dispute, often acting through the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Punuruddhar Samiti to present evidence in court. While he supported the temple's construction, his involvement was frequently at odds with the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and the BJP. Through his samiti, he submitted historical, Puranic, and Vastu facts to the court to argue that the site was the birthplace of Lord Ram and that a mosque had never actually existed there. In the 1990s, he helped form the Ramalaya Trust, arguing that the construction of the temple should be led by religious leaders (saints and Shankaracharyas) rather than political organisations. In February 2019, he announced a "shilanyas" (foundation stone laying) ceremony in Ayodhya, which led to the local administration imposing prohibitory orders to prevent his march.
