34 years old with CRS 479 — is the researcher pathway realistic?

34 years old with CRS 479 — is the researcher pathway realistic?

I’m currently 32 years old and doing a PhD in Canada. I expect to graduate next year, then work for one year as a postdoc or in a research-related position. By the time I apply for PR, I will probably be around 34.

I used the CRS calculator and my estimated score is only 479, even with Canadian study points included. I don’t have French skills, a sibling in Canada, or a provincial nomination.

Given this profile, is it realistic to get PR through the Researchers with Canadian work experience category/pathway? Or would 479 still be too low?

Has anyone here successfully used BC PNP Skilled Worker as a postdoc after the International Post-Graduate stream changes?

I’ve read that NOC 41200 positions at BC public universities may have some special rules, such as not necessarily requiring an indeterminate job offer, and that PhD research/coursework experience may be considered for the directly related experience requirement. However, I’m still confused about how realistic this pathway is in practice.

My concern is that postdoc salaries are usually not very high, and many university postdoc positions are in Metro Vancouver, which means the wage and regional points may be quite low. Based on the recent BC PNP invitation scores, it seems difficult for a regular postdoc profile to receive an invitation unless they have a high salary or work outside Metro Vancouver.

Has anyone here successfully received a BC PNP invitation or nomination as a postdoctoral fellow through the Skilled Worker stream?
