Imodium/loperamide for colostomy

Hi all,

I have a colostomy from the beginning of my descending colon. Has anyone with a colostomy taken imodium/loperamide to help improve their output. My output is mostly porridge like consistency although during the day it can become looser due to my bowel being more active. Would it be safe to trial one imodium per day for a couple of days to see how my output reacts? From searching it appears it is more common for ileostomies to take imodium

Sigmoidoscopy with colostomy

Has anyone had any experience with a sigmoidoscopy with a colostomy? I have a part of my descending colon left with an end colostomy. Surgeon wants to do a sigmoidoscopy to check progress for reversal. Only prep I have to do it fast from dinner the night before and the nurse said they'd give me an enema at the hospital

Manage stoma prolapse with weight loss

Has anyone had any success with reducing the size of their prolapsed stoma through managing their weight?

For context, when I got my colostomy in Jan 2023 I was severly underweight at about 130lbs. I'm quite an active, athletic guy and my normal weight was between 150 and 160lbs. I lost a lot of weight before the stoma due to no appetite and I'm assuming all the inflammation in my descending colon. My weight went back on pretty quickly post surgery and I've been around 160 to 170lbs since April 2023. My stoma was approx 50-60mm when I got it. I had a bad cough in June 2024 and I've been living with a wide stoma since then. It protrudes about an inch and a half to two inches outwards but it's 80mm wide and my bag can only be cut to 90mm so there's not much room for it to swell much more. I'm trying to lose weight and get down towards the lower 150lbs to see if that makes any difference as my surgeon didn't want to do anything to the stoma as it's actively inflamed in the last 5cm of my stoma.
