I employed the recommended pick the 35 materials tile strategy and it works well. A week left of this event and I already made a-lot extra after getting everything from the shop.
I would say the best way to deal with this type of event is to try to find the vegetables and move on the next board ASAP, to maximize the bonus gems 💎. The materials from opening tiles from veggies are more than enough, no need to go out of your way to hit all the 35 when you have located both of the vegs.
