Help me decide: Segway Max G2 vs G3 vs F3 for hilly commute + recreation
Hey all, hoping to get some opinions from people who've ridden these. I'm down to three Segways and going back and forth.
About me:
- 200 lbs rider
- Halifax, NS, hills are real here (some 10%+ grades on my routes)
- Use case: daily commute + recreational rides, eventually scootering ~7 km each way to a new gym
- Typical trip: up to 10 km one-way, occasionally further
- I want it to handle 10° slopes at my weight + bag with no problem
Prices I can get (after tax, CAD):
- Max G2 — $798
- Max G3 — $1,368
- Ninebot F3 — $912
What I care about: honestly all of it: hill climb, range (less so), top speed, build quality, value, year round capabilities. Portability is a nice-to-have since I'll occasionally bring it inside.
What I'm torn on:
- G2 is the value play but I've read the 36V system sags hard under heavier riders on sustained hills
- F3 is lighter and has the 46.8V system (less sag) plus the nice TFT screen, but slightly lower headline hill rating
- G3 is the beast but $568 more than the G2, is it worth it for my use case, or overkill at 200 lbs?
Anyone riding any of these in a hilly city? Does the G2 actually struggle on real climbs with a heavier rider, or is that overblown? And is the G3's hydraulic suspension + IPX6 a meaningful upgrade for year-round riding, or am I paying for capability I won't use?
Appreciate any input 🙏
