Insurance

One of the offices I work is billing the hygienists’ procedures under my provider code for insurance. I only noticed because Sunlife’s billing statements go straight to my inbox.

I asked the management and I was told this is how it should be done because the hygienists don’t have their own CDA/provider set up. Is this true? It feels like insurance fraud to me but maybe I’m wrong.

Decision to quit clinic

DDS of 5 years. Currently working 1.5 days/week at a dental clinic in a city of 1.5mil+ people. Partnership is available in 2 years and buy-in 100% as an owner in 8 years or less.

This practice is the only associateship I've had that offers partnership/eventual buy in. Everyone else I've talked to, especially well established/busy clinics, aren't interested in selling/buy in.

Here's my dilemma. The associateship has a 3km noncompete radius from the city centre. I only work at the office an average of 1.5 days/week (include evenings and weekends). My production ranges between $1800-2500/day. 50% of what I'd make elsewhere. If/when my schedule increases to 3 days/week at the clinic, the noncompete radius will increase to 5km. I've talked to the owner before signing, and she is very adamant about the non-compete clause.

My probationary period is coming to an end in 2 months. I have to make a decision soon. Rationally speaking it's a very terrible associateship in terms of take home. Emotionally I do get along well with the office staff. The lure of becoming a partner is there. What would everyone do if you were in my situation? Just need some outside perspective here.
