Passed SC-300 — a few things that helped

Passed SC-300 today with a 785.

A few things that helped me:

  • Tutorials Dojo practice exams were useful for getting used to the question style and finding weak areas. A few answers/explanations seemed outdated or inconsistent with current Microsoft docs, so I’d double-check anything that feels off instead of memorizing it blindly.
  • Actually looking through the Entra/Azure portals while studying helped a lot. If I wasn’t familiar with something, I’d open the portal and see where the setting lives, what the dropdowns look like, what needs to exist first, and what prerequisites/resources are needed.
  • That made the configuration flow, terminology, and feature relationships stick much better than just reading about them.
  • I also used AI to generate hard practice questions, then focused on whatever I kept getting wrong. Rinse and repeat.
  • Short drills on similar concepts were especially useful near the end as a final check.

Some areas I focused on while studying:

  • Conditional Access vs Defender session controls
  • Risky users vs risky sign-ins
  • Access packages, access reviews, PIM, and Lifecycle Workflows
  • App registrations vs enterprise applications
  • Delegated vs application permissions
  • Admin consent and Application Proxy
  • SAML, OIDC, OAuth, and SCIM
  • PHS vs PTA vs federation
  • Defender for Cloud Apps / app governance
  • Entra Private Access vs Internet Access
  • Hybrid identity / synchronization
  • Diagnostic settings and monitoring

Biggest takeaway for me was understanding when to use each feature and how the pieces fit together, rather than just memorizing definitions.

For exam day, I’d also say manage your time carefully and read the instructions for each section before moving forward.

Overall, portal familiarity + scenario practice + targeted drills helped me the most.
