Is it possible to put in a new barrier for established, escaping bamboo?
I'm sure this has been covered somewhere, but hard to find. We have a small grove of beautiful running bamboo that's at least 22 years old. The previous owner put it in with just a thin metal barrier. It busted out years ago, but I'd just dig up the rhizomes ("just" - actually a big job when there were a lot or they'd been stealthy af and I'd be contending with a twelve footer).
About four years ago, though, we redid our yard and now instead of a crappy lawn there are nice plants (jasmine, oak leaf hydrangeas, and a tree peony) a couple feet away. The escaping rhizomes (well there's not much left to escape from, actually) regularly get bound up in their roots even though I try to keep a close eye on things. It's torture to pull them out.
What I want to know is if it's possible to install a new - effective! - container around small mature grove. I've been a competent rhizome-slayer for two decades, but this is killing me.
Thanks!
