looking for a (ya?) book rec

i want to get my friend a book for her birthday (6 months ago lmao) but the irony is that ive read so many books and have no clue what to get her.

she's just turned 17 so thats the age bracket sort of but she has read adult books too so that would be okay.

she used to really like fantasy, romantasy, rom coms, those sorts of books, but she hasnt been reading very much recently, and she said the other day that she doesnt think shes the biggest fan of fantasy anymore so i just dont really know what to go for?

i also dont know for sure what she has and hasnt read because she did used to read a lot just not in the past few years.

my original plan was to find a sad book because she was asking me for a sad suggestion recently (like think if he had been with me) but i havent really read too many sad books. i went to my sister for a suggestion and she said a thousand splendid suns which im sure is a great book because my sister has really good book taste, but i just dont know if she reads like 'real world books' and it just maybe seemed a bit heavy for getting back into reading, especially since she already has a bunch of stress from year 12. however, i havent read it so if you have lmk if that actually is a good idea.

i also just dont really want to do the classic walk into a bookshop and pick one in the moment because that method has failed me before.

oh btw i know i said i was looking for a sad book but it doesnt have to be- anything is fine really

also this is the inspo for giving it too her if that impacts anything https://au.pinterest.com/pin/973481275750381580/

I'm thinking about getting one of my friends a turntable for her birthday, problem is I'm kind of broke. Ideally I wouldn't be spending more than about $100AUD (72USD or 53GBP or 61 euros), my absolute max would probably be around $150 because, again, broke teenager.

I know that in reality I probably won't be able to get something that's actually ok for that price, but I also don't want to get her one and have it not work. in the very sad amount of research I've done it seems like you need a turntable and an amp- the good thing is that she already has an amp so I wouldn't have to get that. I'm not sure is it's just the turntable that I would have to get or if there are other components though (other than the actual vinyls)

I would be open to getting it second hand but I just don't feel like I'm qualified to what is decent and if it's going to work when i do that.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
