Three young Veilborn—Isri, Tariq, and Zula—discover a pattern of missing youth linked to a hidden power returning. As they investigate, they must conceal their own inherited abilities from a police force built to suppress people like them.

The novel opens The Universe of Veilborn, a literary, spiritual, and science-fantasy universe rooted specifically in Black American culture, memory, identity, and imagination.
