What do people use for note taking?

I'm starting my first year in a couple of weeks. What do people use for taking notes in class? My sister is in university and she uses an iPad to take all her notes in her lectures and then transfers them to her Mac. Is that the norm? I'm doing the bachelor of arts in film and media production if that makes a difference. Should I just plan on bringing my laptop to class and using that? Or would an iPad be useful? I'm not sure what I'm going to need. Thanks!

Reading Account Summary?

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I don't understand how to read the Account Summary. Before making a payment, the Account Summary showed an account balance of approx $13,000 (residence + tuition).

When we went to PayMyTuition, it showed that the outstanding balance was $12,000 because I had a "credit" of $1000. I received an entrance scholarship, so I assumed that the $1000 was the scholarship and paid $12,000.

My $12,000 payment has been processed, but now my Account Summary is showing that I have an Account Balance of $1000. But when I go to PayMyTuition it shows that my Outstanding Balance is $0 and that there is a pending credit of $1000.

So am I all paid up or do I still owe $1000? I'll call on Monday but this is causing me a lot of stress with the tuition deadline being Monday and me thinking that everything was good. Thank you so much for any help in understanding this.

Sorry if this is a silly question but I asked this question about the Open House last week and didn't really get a clear answer.

I'm a new student and I've accepted my offer and paid my desposit. I have my student number (n####@humber.ca) and can access the MyPortal.

My question at the Open House was how does Humber communicate important information like deposit deadlines, when registration opens and stuff like that and they said through my Humber email. Is the email that they're referring to the one that I can access through Microsoft 365 (ie. Outlook)? My inbox is empty, which is fine because there's probably nothing to communicate yet but I'm just wondering if that's it or if I'm missing something. I just don't want to miss something important because I didn't know that I was supposed to be checking somewhere. Thanks!
