Senegal National Team 🇸🇳 – Post-World Cup Discussion Megathread
We have heard that many of you want to speak about our National team now our 2026 World Cup journey is over. In order to satisfy everyone and to keep the subreddit organised by avoiding lots of repeated posts, we are creating this megathread for everyone to discuss the national team in one place.
On here, you are free to share your thoughts about different things such as:
- The overall World Cup campaign.
- The coaching staff and his tactical decisions.
- The individual player performances.
- Your disappointments and positive surprises.
- What should change before the next international competitions.
- The future of the Senegal national team.
We do understand that many of you are frustrated even though it's just football, but we kindly ask you to maintain discussions respectful and to follow the subreddit rules.
To keep the subreddit organised, new posts covering the same topics may be removed and redirected to this megathread.
We Are Still Actively Moderating the Subreddit
We have taken note of the recent criticism, and we want to reassure everyone that the moderation team is active and present.
We check the subreddit every single day, at different times throughout the day. However, moderation is entirely voluntary. Some days there is very little to deal with, while on some other days, like recently, we have a large amount of content to review. We are not here to make excuses, but to clarify the situation and we do apologise if some posts or comments remained up longer than they should have, and we expect all of you to understand that we also have jobs, families, and responsibilities outside of Reddit.
One moderator work and live in Senegal with a family, so with the current World Cup schedule, it's difficult to monitor the subreddit around the clock. The other moderator works in the Netherlands helping African refugees and so is also facing a problem with the World Cup schedule. Once again, we are not trying to make excuses but you have to understand there are things more important in life than Reddit. We are very sorry but there are naturally times when neither of us can be online.
To help keep the subreddit clean, we have implemented several automated moderation systems. Certain keywords automatically trigger the removal of hateful comments or posts, and we are continuously improving these filters. The third moderator (who is taking a break for now) is a specialist of those technical things. You can also help us by reporting any content that breaks the rules. Reports are one of the quickest ways to bring problematic content to our attention.
We also report every fake account and every problematic account we identify directly to the Reddit administrators so be sure that we take our "job" seriously to give all of you a safe space where to exchange. This helps reduce the number of repeat offenders and makes the subreddit safer over time. You probably have no idea how many comments, posts, and users we have to moderate every single day. We review every single post one by one each day. It can take few hours per day. Thanks to our moderation efforts and Reddit's actions, the situation is much better than it could be. It's what we hope so. People who have been in this subreddit for a while may understand it.
Finally, we would like to say again that we are sorry whenever inappropriate content slips through. However, we can't control the fact that some users continue to come here using real accounts, fake accounts, or multiple accounts simply to cause trouble because they apparently have nothing better to do in their life that must be pathetic obviously. We don't control them and it doesn't help that some of those users who are almost exclusively Moroccans are very active on Reddit and mostly from the diaspora which allows them to be active on Reddit throughout the day and the night. Since the AFCON Finale, we have permanently banned and escalated to Reddit's administrators 214 accounts and almost all of them were from the same nationality (you can guess). And more will be added in the next 24 hours. We remove rule-breaking content as soon as we see it or it is reported, but no moderation team can realistically monitor every single comment 24/7.
Thank you to everyone who continues to report issues and help keep this community respectful.
The moderation team.
2026 World Cup: Senegal National Team Targeted by Misinformation from Moroccan Supporters
Here is the video version (5min) in English for people who don't speak French.
Since the moderation does an amazing job and is even cheered by users, I believe it was useful to help them with what they accidentally decided to miss for days on this subreddit.
The state of this subreddit and the way it's moderated are unacceptable.
This subreddit is supposed to be the largest African football subreddit, and yet for weeks a minority of users (all from a certain nationality) have decided to make it toxic with their blatant racism. It goes unnoticed by some because they engage in what is known as “brigading,” so everything gets drowned out in the noise, but this is very clearly unapologetic racism and no longer just annoying trolling by insecure adults. Yesterday (Tuesday), we even had Western users asking what was going on in one of these problematic threads, where terms such as “animals” or “savages” were being used by users who had already been moderated multiple times and are still allowed to remain active in this subreddit.
Here is a non-exhaustive list of all the users who were caught over the past four weeks dropping posts or comments that were either openly racist, fake news, or manipulated content, particularly using AI. All of them did so repeatedly:
u/Get-rekt_boi, u/KNUPTFAD4rl, u/Vaennn, u/fellowidkname, u/-Dot-Over-Ninety-90-, u/Weekly-Disaster-9576, u/JohnWick313, u/Suitable-Parsley-476, u/Admirable-Leading-58, u/RightResponse8731, u/tyroneBiggumzzz, u/kovacic93, u/marouane_tea, u/HiddenGriffin, u/Horror-Appointment79, u/RAUONA, u/Long_Copy_2968, u/BigFish1552, u/Temporary-Pin-4144, u/Snoo-me, u/No_Age_4835, u/s-el-slayer, u/Proxvu, u/miburofan1603, etc...
Most of them hide their activity on Reddit and believe they can remain unnoticed. We can also note that none of these users were sanctioned, aside from having their content removed, and only after it was reported. There are nevertheless 2 moderators on this subreddit who are listed as active, and the users in question repeatedly violated Reddit’s rules, which every moderator is supposed to enforce and uphold.
I had the opportunity to speak with the moderation team, and they are free to publish our conversations because I have nothing to hide. The moderators’ position is that racist content gets removed if it is reported, and that people simply need to post positive content to counterbalance the negative content. I’m sorry, but that is unacceptable, and the current state of this subreddit just days before the start of the World Cup proves that quite clearly.
I am myself a moderator of a subreddit that receives twice as many daily visitors, and we only have three moderators, so I believe I know a thing or two about moderation. Someone who posts racist content should not only have that content removed, but should also receive either a temporary or permanent ban. That is not the case here, and the message being openly sent is therefore that racism is tolerated, especially when the moderation team acts only reactively rather than proactively.
And this is not maths. You do not post positive content to “counterbalance” negative and racist content. You do your job as a moderator, which is to moderate problematic content.
I suggested to follow the example of the two other major African continental subreddits by opening up the moderation team with at least one moderator from each region of the continent.
I do not want to be that person, but if nothing is done, the last remaining option will be to report this subreddit to Reddit’s administrators. It is simply unacceptable that, in June 2026, on a subreddit that claims to represent Africa, with one Egyptian moderator and another South African moderator, people are still reading racist content day after day as if it were normal.
Finally, moderating AI-generated content, fake news, and other forms of manipulated content should also be a basic requirement if this subreddit is to stop being the dumpster fire it has become. Factually, it's part of Reddit's policies. And so it includes u/Onemendo and many of his posts.
