Screen dead after 18 month
Bought my Asus 16" G16 GA605WV at the beginning of 2025. Super fancy screen oled/amoled whatever died few weeks ago.
I was watching in real time how screen gets dark green borders, getting darker to black, then starting to creep deeper to the center of the screen to total blackout.
Process took about 4 hours. I work from home so laptop was never moved from the table, dropped or hit in any way.
For me, this is probably last laptop purchase in this price range. I hoped that price is measurement of quality, thinking at least 3 years of proper functionality. I hoped too much, I guess.
Next purchase will not have oled/amoled, nor GPU. I'm not gaming or doing anything to give a hardware a hard time, settings are on Balanced / Standard since first days, GPU probably never even activated since my biggest activities are browsing and sublime text editor for coding, internal card is absolutely enough for me.
Now I use some old Acer external 27" screen, I like bigger screen for multi tasking and more windows so I will not fix the laptop screen (700 usd on their site, plus customs, repair service etc, all together no less than 1100 usd for a fucking screen), in a month or so purchasing some 32" screen, still looking options on Amazon.
