The sun is incomprehensibly older and more complex than anything that humans have ever observed, yet we assume it has no consciousness because it doesn't have a face. An ant crawling on the back of an elephant would probably make the same assumption. Is consciousness an emergent property of biology or fundamental to matter itself?

As of right now, there is no working model for consciousness yet we confidently say AI will never have it. There is no working model for gravity yet we say the universe is 85% dark matter. I'm not sure if we are going to verify the possibility of consciousness outside of a biological substrate or verify that most scientists never had it to begin with. Humans assume way too much for only having been doing medical science without leeches for a couple hundred years. 👻
