My mother has slept on a thin gadda for 26 years with a slipped disc — help me choose the ONE mattress that could finally let her sleep pain-free.

I genuinely need help from people who have dealt with serious back/disc issues themselves or with their parents.
My mother has been sleeping on a very thin traditional gadda placed on wooden planks for almost 26 years. She’s had disc-related pain for around 20 years now, and we’ve finally decided to buy her a proper mattress for the first time in her life.
I don’t want to fall for marketing terms like “orthopedic” and end up making her pain worse.
Her condition/situation:
Around 97 kg
Probably slipped/herniated disc (not recently confirmed)
Nerve pain/sciatica-type symptoms with shooting pain into hips and legs
Pain is bad after waking up and also after physical activity
Sleeps very hot
Combination sleeper — keeps changing positions all night
Wakes up multiple times and rarely feels properly rested
Prefers harder sleeping surfaces
Bed base is flat wooden planks
One thing I’ve noticed:
When she first lies down, the pain sometimes feels worse, but after some time it becomes slightly better.
This is a big purchase for us emotionally because I just want her to wake up one day without immediately holding her back in pain.
Budget is around ₹15k–₹25k for roughly a 6ft x 6.5ft mattress, but I can stretch beyond that if it genuinely makes a difference long-term.
I’d really appreciate advice on:
Latex vs hybrid vs HR foam vs memory foam
Medium-firm or firm for someone heavier with nerve pain
Mattresses that actually helped your parents/you long term
Brands/models worth trusting
Things I should absolutely avoid
How hard the transition is from a thin hard gadda to a proper mattress
Looking for honest real-world experiences more than sponsored recommendations.
