So I am changing out my factory stock on my 101gir for an AR style buffer tube stock assembly from HKparts that uses the existing endcap but am concerned about the long term durability.

Initially, I had installed a enhanced buffer (also from HKparts) and noticed that the rear large screw and clamp on the factory buffer doesn't really contact the stock anymore as the buffer is longer and sticks into the hollow space. I tried screwing it in it feeling that it was needed for something but in doing so, it unscrewed the end of the buffer housing and the spring came out. -wasn't staked and didn't bother to check (lol). I put it back in, red locktighted the threads, and staked it and has so far been okay after 300 or so rounds. A bit disappointed and wary at this point. But it is what it is ig.

Now fast forward, I am doing a dmr build currently and opted for an AR stock adaptor (hkp-16583). But no mention of any rear screw? I noticed both the Spuhr and Fab Defense stock assemblies come with one and the PRS 2 asks for one specifically. It appears to be a standard m4 buffer tube.

What exactly does the screw do and is it needed? I'm half tempted to chuck the buffer since it came apart but not sure if that would still be fine to use after staking? and if so, do I need something back there for durability? seems like a lot of stress on just the two front screws.

Thanks in advance.
